About the programme

The Foundation believes that turning sustainability into a practical programme of action means more than changing technologies and legislation. It is also about changing values and long-term attitudes. Its 5-year programme – Values and Sustainability – will explore how values can act as drivers for change and as the basis for conversations and negotiations between different communities, cultures and generations. The need for a language that is understood by all (the most common theme running through the first 10 Consultations) and the role of the media will be key focal points.

We plan to use the following stepping stones, although inevitably, there will be an element of overlap between each of them and they may well change as the programme evolves, with the help of our partners:

  • 2001 is addressing the generic theme, Changing Values: examining the values adopted by different sectors of society, how values are applied to normal everyday operations throughout business, and how values and mindsets can most effectively be changed

  • 2002 will go back to the Foundation’s origins, focusing on Values & Money.
  • 2003 will mark the Foundation’s 20th Anniversary, when we will focus attention on Values & Time.
  • 2004 will again take us back to our early initiatives, with the theme Values &Technology, examining the relationship between the ‘hard’ technology issues and the ‘soft’ values issues.
  • 2005 will focus on Values & Leadership, with the aim of helping business leaders to catalyse the values shift.
