The World Business Council for Sustainable Business “is a CEO-led organization of forward-thinking companies that galvanizes the global business community to create a sustainable future for business, society and the environment.”
It provides thought leadership and works on specific sectors and clusters of business activity. It also plays an advocacy role for business, recognising that business and the public sector need to work together to create viable sustainable development solutions.
It has 200 member companies across different business sectors who share best practice and create tools for change. It also works with international organisations, governments, think tanks and NGOs to “fully leverage the combined sustainability efforts of the public and private sectors [and believes that] close collaboration with policymakers is integral to bringing about significant scale and impact of businesses’ solutions to sustainable development for example through Multistakeholder Dialogues: SLE’s between the WBCSD member CEOs, Council Members and senior policymakers.”
