By using creative ways to inform and engage people of all generations, The Democracy Box project aims to make sure that everyone understands UK democracy. The Democracy Box is a neutral and non-party political project based in Wales and stems from the understanding that many Welsh and UK citizens lack a basic conception of UK democracy as well as how and why local, devolved and Westminster Governments all fit together.
The Democracy Box was created by Yvonne Murphy (aka Omidaze Productions) and is developed with young people aged 16-26 as co-creators , working together to develop innovative modes of democratic participation across multiple media platforms. In addition to their work on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Twitter, The Democracy Box has a podcast series with the most recent 6 bilingual episodes created in partnership with the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales. Omidaze formed the partnership with the Future Generations Commissioner in November 2019 and are developing both The Democracy Box and The Talking Shop through that partnership.
The Future Generations Commissioner of Wales have also launched the Manifesto For The Future in collaboration with The Democracy Box. This manifesto contains 52 recommendations for political parties and local governments ranging from global issues such as the climate and nature emergencies, to mitigating the cost-of-living crisis, while ensuring that these recommendations also take the wellbeing of future generations into consideration.
