The Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University in Canada has published the report Can Public Participation Accelerate the Transition to Net-Zero?: Innovations and Challenges for Advancing the Field of Climate Engagement. The report aims to inspire and support governments and practitioners in their climate engagement work and inform the creation of the International Climate Engagement Network (ICEN).
The report provides examples of innovations currently underway in the field of climate engagement, surfaces key challenges, identifies existing knowledge centres and learning communities that are supporting climate engagement practitioners and outlines next steps for the creation of ICEN.
The goal of ICEN is to highlight success stories in climate engagement and expand the engagement toolkits currently being used by national and sub-national governments. The ultimate purpose of this work is to accelerate climate action through public participation, recognizing that listening and publicly responding to citizen voices will increase both the quality and perceived legitimacy of climate action, thereby helping governments to sustain the multi-decade transition required to reach net-zero emissions.
FDSD is delighted to be a founding partner in the ICEN and to be recognised in the report as a key actor in this space.
