The Environment Foundation works to promote creative, practical and urgent action for sustainable development. We were established in 1983, with initial funding from the international insurance industry.

Our aim is to support high-quality debate, analysis and reflection for people around the world who want to overcome barriers to sustainable development.

For the period 2009-2011, we will continue our focus on democracy and sustainable development.

Our work will build understanding on when and how democracy facilitates sustainable development; and how sustainable development affects democracy.

Together with partners in the UK and internationally we will work through dialogue, analysis, events and advocacy. We aim to deliver resources to support decision-making fit for the sustainable development challenges of the twenty-first century.
